The NAD Committees are comprised of the chairs as follows:

Finance Committee Philippe Montalette (UT)

Philippe Montalette of Utah is a data analyst for Sorenson Communications and has been with the company for over 8 years. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix. He is currently president of the Utah Association of the Deaf (UAD). Montalette’s passion is working with and raising funds for various local non-profit organizations like UAD and Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf. He strongly believes in partnerships with different organizations. He has enjoyed hosting ASL Films movies in Salt Lake City and St. George for the few years. Montalette, who was born in Paris, France and spent his childhood in New York City and London, England, enjoys traveling, hiking and spending time with his family. Montalette is married to Yvonne; who he met during the early 1980s at NTID and they have three adult children.

Education Strategy Team (EST) Tawny Holmes (DC)

Tawny Holmes is an Equal Justice Works Fellow Sponsored by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. For the fellowship, she will spend two years as a staff attorney at the NAD, focusing on the legal rights of deaf children to an equal education including training and education for parents. She is the chair of the Education Strategy Team and coordinator of the Educational Advocates program for the NAD. Tawny recently graduated from the University of Baltimore Law school and during law school, she was a family educator at the Maryland School for the Deaf-Columbia. Before that, she earned her M.A. in Deaf Education and bachelors' degrees in Deaf Studies/Sociology from Gallaudet University and gained experience in teaching all grade levels at the National Laurent Clerc Center. Tawny grew up in the South with a third-generation Deaf family in south Florida and graduated from the Alabama School for the Deaf. Tawny is passionate about volunteering, and has done so for NAD for over 15 years, starting with her days as a Jr. NAD leader and includes her time as the Youth Strategy Team Chair from 2008-2012. She is also the proud godmother of Avant and Leilani, who currently attend the Illinois School for the Deaf.

Diversity Strategy Team (DST) Shilpa Hanumantha (VA)

Shilpa Hanumantha was born in Bangalore, India and grew up in Northern Virginia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from George Mason University. Shilpa also earned two master's degrees from Gallaudet University: one in administration and supervision and the other in clinical psychology then later received her doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Shilpa remained at Gallaudet University for the next four years as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2) center, one of the six selected Science and Learning Centers funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). In the fall of 2012, Shilpa joined the faculty of the American Sign Language Program and the Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She also works in private practice as a resident in clinical psychology providing comprehensive assessments for persons who are deaf and hard of hearing. Shilpa has been involved in several non-profit organizations within the Deaf community over the years with a main focus to improve diversity as well as the myriad of national and international issues that affect deaf people, a practice she continues to this day, even serving as a consultant or an officer on the boards of a few organizations. She has served as a board chair of Global Reach Out (GRO), as a board member of Deaf Women United (DWU) and co-founder of the Deaf Youth Camp of Color (DYCC). In her free time, Shilpa enjoys reading psychology journals, photo-blogging, traveling to new places and trying out new spicy ethnic dishes.
